Jesus said:

"Keep on praying and do not lose heart"
Luke 18 v 1

The Church in the Westlands is committed to intercessory prayer. There are a number of ways in which prayer needs can be dealt with promptly and sensitively.

(1) Names and situations in need of prayer can be entered on the prayer board which is situated by the Memorial Chapel in St Andrew's Church and in the prayer book which can be found on the table in the vestibule in St Peter's Church.

(2) Urgent prayer needs can be addressed promptly by informing Rev Andrew Dawswell at St Andrew's Tel: 619594 who will activate the Prayer Chain. Seventeen people will then pray confidentially for the person/situation. Rev Dawswell can also be emailed at: ja.dawswell@googlemail.com for less urgent situations.

(3) Prayer box: this is situated at the back of St Andrew's. Prayer requests can be written on the paper provided and placed in the box. Each Sunday the prayer box will be taken up and placed on the altar at the offertory in the 10.30 a.m. service. Intercessory prayer for these prayer requests will be offered at Morning Prayers at 7.30 a.m. each morning of the week for one month unless otherwise indicated. At the end of this time, the papers will be burnt.

(4) Linked in prayer: 9.45 a.m. Service on BBC Radio 4 - when the housebound will tune into the service and have a list of others who are doing the same thing.

(5) Morning Prayer 7.30 a.m. each weekday morning in St Andrew's - specific prayer needs included. Please contact Rev Andrew Dawswell Tel: 619594. ja.dawswell@googlemail.com

(6) Service of Compline 9.00 p.m. in St Andrew's on Saturday evenings - specific prayer needs included. Please contact Rev Andrew Dawswell Tel: 619594 "Take it to the Lord in prayer......"

(7) Each Sunday after our 10.30 am service, there are people
  • available to pray with you.
  • You may wish to share a joy and are wanting to offer praise and thanksgiving to our loving God who provides for our every need;
  • you may have a burden or sorrow and need a listening ear and someone to help you bring your concerns before the Lord;
  • you may just need someone to accompany you as you wait on the Lord in listening prayer.

This prayer ministry is confidential and those who pray with you will carry you in their private prayers throughout the week. If you would like to receive this ministry, then make your way to the Lady Chapel at the front of church on the left-hand side at the end of worship.

"We can approach God with this confidence:
if we make requests which accord with his will, he listens to us;
and if we know that our requests are heard,
we also know that all we ask of him is ours"
1 John 5 v 14-15

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
Uttered or unexpressed,
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear,
The upward glancing of an eye
When none but God is near.

Prayer is the simplest form of speech
That infant lips can try;
Prayer the sublimest strains that reach
The majesty on high.

Prayer is the contrite sinner's voice
Returning from his ways,
While angels in their songs rejoice,
And cry: "Behold, he prays!"

O Thou by whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth, the Way!
The path of prayer thyself hast trod:
Lord, teach us how to pray!
