Children's and Youth Worker

Hello everybody my name is Jacob Wain and I am the children and youth worker for the Church in the Westlands. I've recently started my position and work is underway to build up strong connections between the church and the children and young people in the surrounding community. Throughout my week I spend a lot of time visiting the local primary schools in the area; Westlands, Seabridge and Langdale Primary. This coming term I will be starting work at Friarswood Primary School leading assemblies and a year six leavers session, also I hope to start up a mentoring program at Friarswood Primary at the start of the next academic year. This mentoring work will be similar to that which I have undertaken in Newcastle and Clayton High Schools where I am working with students from year 9 onwards geared towards improving their academic performance. 

As well as this work in the community I am also working in the Church helping to run Pathfinders junior church club on Sunday mornings. This is a great opportunity for youth aged 11-14 to get stuck into the Bible in a way they understand. This is a very exciting position and I can't wait to see how the work grows over the coming
